According to underlying information, Hamas has confirmed it is holding 20 hostages and is prepared to release them on Sunday, a day earlier than expected. The terrorist organization told Israel that the hostages were ready to be exchanged before President Trump, the architect of the peace deal, arrived in the region, according to information provided to The Wall Street Journal by sources familiar with the deal. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said early Monday that the Jewish state was prepared for the handover, even though it was sooner than expected. REUTERS “Israel is ready and prepared to act immediately. To take all our hostages,” Netanyahu said Sunday after an update with those leading the process. Still, his spokesman said that the assumption remains valid that the handover will occur early Monday – 737 days after they were kidnapped on October 7, 2023, CNN reported. “All 20 will be handed over to the Red Cross at once, and the terrorist organization Hamas will take them in six to eight vehicles without any sick images,” said Shosh Bedrosian, a spokeswoman for the Prime Minister’s office. The Post’s front cover celebrates Trump’s peace deal. Trump helped broker the peace deal that has led to Hamas being forced to release its hostages. Hamas is believed to be holding 20 live hostages and at least 28 dead hostages. Under the deal finalized last week, Hamas has a 72-hour period to release the hostages to Israel, and Israel acknowledges that it will likely take additional time to recover the bodies of dead captives. This is primarily because Hamas claims they do not know the location of some of the bodies. “The IDF has completed preparations for the release of the hostages and estimates that all of them will be released before Trump arrives,” a source told The Kan public broadcaster. Trump is scheduled to land in Israel early Monday, where he is expected to address the Knesset and then travel to Egypt to celebrate the historic peace deal. As part of the deal, a massive amount of humanitarian aid will be sent to the besieged Gaza Strip. The deal states that humanitarian aid should flow into the Gaza Strip at the minimum rate agreed to in January. The Egyptian Red Crescent reported that there are 400 trucks worth of humanitarian aid waiting to flow into Gaza, carrying 9,000 tons of resources such as medical supplies, flour, fuel, blankets, portable bathrooms, and more. According to Katz, this effort will be coordinated with international efforts to rebuild Gaza. The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel is believed to have only destroyed 30% to 40% of its tunnel system. Trump announced his 20-point peace plan for Israel and Gaza on September 29. The framework was widely praised by its European and Arab allies. Israel initially supported the plan, and Hamas agreed to it on Wednesday evening after detailed discussions with mediators. Late Thursday, Israel’s cabinet voted to approve the deal. While this major diplomatic breakthrough signaled an end to the bloody war that spanned over two years since the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, it also established a framework for rebuilding Gaza.
