We’re now more than a third of the way through the 2025 NFL season, meaning we have a lot of information about who these teams are and where they might be going. We’re clear that there’s a lot more on the road ahead, and things could change quite dramatically in a few weeks, but there’s a lot to pick apart. This allows us to make some educated guesses about which teams are good and bad, compete against the simulator and prepare for the draft, or think about the Super Bowl. As such, we have ranked the 32 NFL teams based on where they stand after seven weeks. We put the leagues into four buckets: the inner and outer circle of contenders, fringe teams, and draft gear. These lines are listed below alphabetically with the teams within them.
Tier 4: Draft Preparation
Some of these teams are better than others, but all have records of 2-5 or worse – especially in the NFC with 12 of 16 having records of .500 or better. If you want 2-5 then your time is probably not going anywhere. This can be said about the Cardinals and Giants, who seem to be above the rest of this group, but the record puts them in the same category. He will have to pull the remaining seven or nine for a playoff run, and that probably won’t happen. Others like the Dolphins, Saints, and Titans win once in the season in seven weeks, while the Lakers wine. They are all, quite clearly, done and string are playing.
Tier 3: Fringe
Bears, Bengals, Broncos, Shields, Dukes, Cowboys, Falcons, Jaguars, Panthers, Ravens, Steelers, Texans, Vikings
This 13-team bucket is the biggest by far, making up almost half. It is full of teams that are just okay with some big flaws that probably keep them from being true contenders. They are not quite ready for the draft yet, but they should also not sell their playoff tickets and certainly not make hotel reservations in the Bay Area for Super Bowl 60. The Bears have won four in a row, and their running game suddenly looks pretty dangerous, but Chicago’s defense has been suspect at times. The Bengals are led by Joe Flacco and their defense is very fiery. The Broncos have a great defense, but it was torn apart by the Giants and the offense led by Bo Snow is very inconsistent. Threatens to leave the pool for another season due to injury. The Chiefs are 3-4 when Jaden Daniels is dealing with an injury for the second time this year, and they are coming off a shaky schedule. Dallas may have the league’s best offense and worst defense. The Falcons can run the ball and play great defense, but the passing attack comes and goes, which doesn’t work in the modern NFL. The Jags looked like they were clearly too reliant on those early turnovers that they forced. The Panthers are on a soft defensive schedule with a trio of one-score wins that don’t indicate the rest of the season. The Ravens are here 1-5 only because of their injuries and the fact that the AFC North is just not good. The Steelers would have been ranked above this if they hadn’t lost to the Bengals this past week. But the Packers, Colts and Rockets are in the next three games and – one way or another – things could look very different for them very quickly. The Texans have lost three games to start the year in eighty-one games and blown out two bad teams before losing to the Seahawks on Monday night. Who knows what they will do. The Vikings have the league’s most creative defense, but it’s hard to trust their offense at the quarterback position.
Tier 2: Outer Circle
These teams are likely top contenders, but there’s probably one thing that’s keeping us from putting them among the elite. For the 49ers, it’s injuries. How long can they do what they do without the top guys? They will have a healthy offense but Nick Bosa and Fred Warner have not returned. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh did just that, but can he continue? The Bucs are one of the most liked teams to watch at the start of the season, but we saw on Monday night how different things can actually be if the weekly miracle doesn’t return to the scene. Four of their five wins have come by a combined 10 points, and four have scored all their game points in the last minute. It’s very volatile. The Colts look like world-beaters. Offense is their engine. And I still can’t believe Daniel Jones is still offending. Am I waiting too long? Probably. But I feel comfortable waiting for more than seven games. Everything seems difficult for the Eagles this year, especially on offense, where the running game hasn’t looked the same as last season. They also can’t rush the pedestrian. They are in this order because they have talent and a record, but they haven’t seen the part most of the time. The Packers seem to have the highest ceiling of any team in this lineup and perhaps the entire league, but they haven’t reached it in 2 weeks. When are we going to see that team again? Only one of their five wins is worth writing home about against expensive teams (more in the second), though, and I really want to see what their defense looks like against another offense worth their salt before they go into the inner circle. The Seahawks can reach very high on both sides of the ball – especially when they are healthy in the secondary. Though all their wins came against underdogs, and they lost twice when they played teams in that order. I want to see what it’s like for them if they go down in the game and need to be careful.
Tier 1: Inner Circle
What do you have to offer as a world beater this year? Not quite like that. But equipped with Josh Allen and always mixed up for the AFC title, they feel that the only way they can have a major success in the season is if they finally break through and do it – even win the title game. Leaders are rounding out, winning four of five games and we are seeing them be ruthless as we have seen them for years. He recently attacked their defense, not for the first time. That unit is coming off its best performance of the season. We also know that the Chiefs have gone to the Conference Title Game every year and three Super Bowls in a row. The Lions still have one of the best rosters in the NFL. They should be healthy in the season and those who assist in their defense should return to fighting shape. Their offense is as explosive as any in the league, and can be bitterly efficient when set up in a scripted game. They didn’t get lucky last year due to injuries, but they will be considered big again. The Rams would easily be 6-1 if the defense hadn’t failed to kick against the Eagles. Even without Puka Nakua, their offense has only scored five touchdowns in London. Their defense still has some marks (outside of cornerback, of course), but it’s a strong enough unit to run with Matthew Stafford at the end of his career. (Tags-Translation Ravens
