Pregame hype revolved around Aaron Rodgers, but Jordan Love stole the show Sunday night, leading the Packers to a 35-25 victory against his former team. In a twist of irony, Love’s stellar night included tying a franchise record with Hall of Fame Packers quarterback Brett Favre, whom Rodgers succeeded as Green Bay’s QB1 in 2008. In the game, Love tied Favre’s 18-year-old franchise record by completing 2 passing touchdowns. Ironically, Rodgers was Favre’s teammate in the 2007 season when Favre threw 20 consecutive passes. “It’s definitely special,” Love later told NBC Sports. “Obviously, I think we pushed the odds a little bit in the first half. We knew we were going to have a hyped-up game every week against A-Rod. We’re happy to be here to get the deal done.” Love’s hot streak helped the Packers turn a 16-7 halftime deficit into a 35-19 lead with under four minutes to play. He found much success throwing to tight end, Tucker Kraft, who had seven passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns on National Tight Ends Day. “We knew we had to focus on each other,” Love said about Green Bay’s half temperature. “Everyone goes out there, they do their job and they just shut up and go out there and we didn’t have to make a play in the first half. And we did.” They certainly did, and when the whole effort was made, the influential Packers second-half performance came from Love, who finished the game with 360 yards on 29-of-37 passing, becoming the first Packers quarterback to win in Pittsburgh after Hall of Famer Bart Starr. Like Rodgers and Favre, Love spent three years as Rodgers’ teammate before getting the opportunity to lead the Packers’ offense. But unlike Rodgers, Love led the Packers to the playoffs in his first season as the team’s QB1, including a stunning upset over Dallas in the NFC Wild Card Round. Love and the Packers could not replicate that level of success in 2024, however. The Packers were quickly out of the first round, chasing the Eagles. Love took a step back in appearance, which was primarily caused by injuries that hit the Green Bay Eagles early in the starting season. 2024 was also a rough season for Rodgers, who signed with Pittsburgh this offseason after two tumultuous seasons with the Cubs. Rodgers has found a new life in Pittsburgh as he has focused his future Hall of Fame career on a positive note. Love is looking to join Rodgers, Favre and Starr as Packers quarterbacks who have won a Super Bowl in their 27 seasons. Despite still being a way away from doing that, Love helped his cause on Sunday night as the 5-1-1 Packers maintained their position in the NFC North. In the process, Love tied Favre in the history books while denying Rodgers the glory of becoming the fifth quarterback in history to win in 32 games.
