Cameron Norrie, Britain’s No. 2, began his Paris Masters campaign with a straight-sets victory over Argentina’s Sebastian Baez. Norrie was the match favourite, especially given the indoor conditions, and despite Baez struggling in parts throughout the match, the Brit was able to close out the match 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 24 minutes. The 30-year-old secured the win when his opponent netted on match point after Norrie had secured a 40-0 lead. He will now face world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the second round. After the match, Norrie said, “I was pretty nervous.” “It’s one of those where you are favourite to win and you have to put that to one side. I was able to do that well for some of the time and enjoy it at the end. It’s good to oppose some opponents. He fought well and I can be happy with my medium.” Speaking about the upcoming Alcaraz match, he said: “Great, I’m excited.”
