Getty Images This week’s power ratings bring good and bad news for the Big 12. The good news is that, for the first time this season, there are two teams in the Big 12 who make it into the top 12 of my power ratings. This is worthy of a celebratory party, and perhaps a sign hangs over the Big 12 Championship in December, too. The bad news is that neither of the two Big 12 teams is undefeated in conference play. To make matters worse, one of the two teams already has two conference losses. Ole Miss rises in CBS Sports 136: College Football Rankings, LSU falls as coaching search begins, Texas Tech’s Chip Patterson locker, which is the most important of the season here, and the Utah Utes, who have risen to No. 11 this week. BYU and Cincinnati, who are 5-0 in Big 12 drama and No. 10 and 17 in the AP Poll, are 15th and 21st in my power ratings, respectively. Houston is 29th. All that messy Big 12 side has been coming for the last month or so. The Utes don’t have much of a chance to win the league — defeats to Texas Tech and BYU kill them in most straightforward scenarios — but they’ll host Cincinnati at home this week, so they’re bound to have a say in who wins the league. All of which is great news for the league as far as drama and competition expands. However, it doesn’t bode well for how the league will do in the College Playoff, or for potential performance in the Playoff. Rankings
