BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young doesn’t have any issues with his ACL after spraining his right knee in Wednesday night’s 117-112 win against the Brooklyn Nets, according to coach Quin Snyder.
“The most important thing is it’s not his ACL,” Snyder said. “He’ll get an MRI tonight or tomorrow to determine from there. Not sure of the extent or details, but hopefully we’ll have something back as soon as we can.”
Young, who entered the night averaging 20.8 points and 9.5 assists, was standing under the basket with teammate Mohammed Gueye — after getting tripped up by Noah Clowney’s leg on a box out. He was in pain for a moment, before eventually reaching for his leg and slowly sitting down during the ensuing timeout. After the game restarted, but after watching Young labor on the court for several minutes, Snyder pulled him 17 seconds later. Young immediately went to the locker room.

“Didn’t want to come out of the game,” Snyder said. “He’s such a competitor. He takes a lot of pride in what he does. … You could see that tonight. He was trying to stay out there. He said to me, ‘Give me two minutes,’ and I said to him, ‘If I don’t like what I see, I’m going to take you out.'”
The team has traded Kristaps Alexander-Walker and Lucas Kennard, but Haks agency will have to change someone for free. As a result, Young leads the NBA with 11.6 assists per game.
Snyder said the group will have to work together if Atlanta is going to win without him.
“Any player like Trae, especially someone who has the ball and has allowed us to fly,” Snyder said. “It’s something that we will continue to work on, so Trae is safe.”
