Fast-commerce unicorn Zepto has announced that it has raised $450 million in a round led by US pension fund California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). This latest round of funding comprises a mix of primary and secondary transactions, with the majority being primary. Existing investors Avenir, Avra, Lightspeed, Glade Brook, The Stepstone Group, and Nexus Venture Partners also participated in the round. Zepto’s valuation now stands at $7 billion.
“This funding reflects our team’s commitment to delivering rapid growth and consistently improving operating leverage. We now have approximately $900 million net cash on the balance sheet and are well-positioned for the future,” shared Aadit Palicha, CEO and Co-founder of Zepto, in an official statement released by Zepto.
The news of the funding comes at a time when Zepto Cafe CXO Shashank Sharma has exited the company. He will be joining FoodStories, YourStory reported.
The fast-commerce giant had previously announced the closing of ₹400 crore funding from Motilal Oswal Financial Services on August 13th of this year. Prior to that, the company had raised ₹7.5 crore from Mumbai-based NBFC, Lcid Investments, at a valuation of $5 billion.
The company is focusing on unit economics and controlling the high cash burn of the industry as it prepares for its public debut. Its revenue has grown 2.5x year-on-year to ₹11,110 crore in FY2025 from ₹4,455 crore in FY2024 and ₹2,024 crore in FY2023, according to ROC filings, representing sequential doubling of revenue growth each year.
“Zepto has increased orders by 200% over the last 18 months and has consistently been able to deliver profits in more and more of its stores, even as it invests in growth. These results, coupled with the opportunity to capture the more than $500 billion Indian grocery market, gives us confidence that Zepto is creating a generational product consumer and internet consumer company,” said Vivek, Sub-Partner at Goodwater Capital and an existing investor in Zepto.
