Nvidia’s market share in China has plummeted from 95% to 0%, according to CEO Jensen Huang, who criticized policies he believes aim to harm others instead of supporting domestic efforts. Export controls on Nvidia chips, including the H100, A100, and now the H20 GPU, and Chinese support effectively prevent Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, from selling any flagship technology in significant quantities. In the current environment, Nvidia has been unable to sell GPUs in mainland China, a situation Huang considers disastrous not only for the company but also for the US economy. He laments Nvidia’s complete loss of its Chinese market share.
In an interview with Citadel Securities, Huang stated, “We went from 95% market share to 0%, and so I can’t imagine any policymaker thinking that it’s a good idea that the policies that we put in place lost America one of the world’s largest markets.” The CEO explained that politicians should consider policies that are good for America and not necessarily “harmful to other people.”
In September 2025, the US government partially allowed Nvidia to resume sales in China, but only at the cost of forfeiting 15% of its revenue. Around that time, it was reported that China’s anti-monopoly authority would begin investigating Nvidia. Nvidia also noted that it received a US$4.5 billion charge for US sanctions on H20 exports to China in the first quarter of 2026. “There were no H20 sales to Chinese customers in the second quarter,” Nvidia stated in an SEC filing.

In the previous full fiscal year, Nvidia generated US$17 billion in revenue from China alone, contributing to the company’s total revenue of US$130.5 billion, an increase of 114% year-over-year. Huang called China the world’s second-largest computing market, adding: “I think it’s a mistake for the United States to not participate.”
“So hopefully we’ll continue to explain, inform, and hope for policy changes,” he added.
