The Audio-Technica ATH-ADX7000 features newly developed 58mm HXDT drivers. The honeycomb structure is made of aluminum and magnesium alloy. Available from October 31st for $3,499 (approximately £2,600 / AU$5,400). Audio-Technica has unveiled its most advanced open-back headphones to date, the ATH-ADX7000. According to the company, they deliver “astonishingly natural, spacious and comfortable high-end sound.” The new headphones feature the firm’s new advanced HXDT driver design, which allows Audio-Technica to create a larger driver – 58mm in diameter – with precise density, which the firm says delivers exceptionally clear and detailed music reproduction. This speaker is positioned in the cabinet with “extreme precision” thanks to Audio-Technica’s Core Mount Technology, which places the speaker’s voice coil in the middle of the cabinet, presumably to ensure very precise positioning. The headphones feature an aluminum open-honeycomb design that provides more efficient airflow, crisp bass, and clear highs. This design, along with the magnesium alloy frame, means the headphones are very light, weighing only 270 grams with Alcantara microfiber ear pads, increasing slightly to only 275 grams with the included velvet ear pads. A magnesium alloy frame is also used for practical reasons: it helps to reduce unwanted vibration. The ATH-ADX7000 comes with two detachable 3.0 meter (9.8 ft) cables with Audio-Technica A2DC (detachable audio cable): a balanced 4-pin XLRM cable and an unbalanced 0.25 inch (6.3 mm). Each ATH-ADX7000 is individually serial numbered and comes with a rigid carrying case. The ATH-ADX7000 will be available from October 31st at a suggested retail price of $3,499. That’s roughly £2,600/AU$5,400, so it’s bound to be worth more than most of the best wired headphones, but they’re aimed at people who have a serious amp setup to power them.
