Fiio has announced the Air Link, a new pocket-sized Bluetooth transmitter that provides LDAC and a full suite of aptX codecs, including aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless, for virtually any USB-C audio source. This makes it particularly appealing for iPhone, iPad and Mac owners who want the best possible quality and a wide selection of high-quality headphones or wireless speakers. It’s an attractive upgrade for any device: Bluetooth 6.0, sub-50ms ultra-low latency, and a compact design that won’t weigh your phone down too much. FiiO Air Link: haven’t we heard about this before? If you’re thinking, “Wait, didn’t Fiio launch this last year?” you’re almost right: It’s very similar to the Fiio BT11, which offers LDAC, Hi-Res audio and Lossless audio via the same Qualcomm chipset, and is designed to work with all USB ports, including iPhones and iPads. Unfortunately, this product had some issues in its life, with some online discussion – including an exceptionally long and ongoing thread on head-fi.org – regarding connection problems. Fiio’s own website, among other things, describes LDAC connection problems, blames low-quality receivers, and advises using “the Bluetooth LDAC codec in more favorable conditions.” It was a real shame, because the BT11 looked like the perfect product for people we might call “iPhone-loving wireless audiophiles.” So I really hope that Air Link can deliver the same promise, but this time without any problems.
The Air Link will be available from November 2025 at an official price of $59/£49.99. We’ve especially appreciated Fiio’s releases over the past few years for delivering great audiophile sound at lower prices than the competition – a true leader in the growing ‘Chi-Fi’ world where Chinese audio brands are sourcing their products.
