স্মার্ট মানি: পরিবার এক বছর বয়সীকে ইটনে ভর্তি করার জন্য বছরে £180,000 টিউটর অফার করে
Paying a tutor £180,000 a year for one child might sound like a dream, but there’s a catch: the child is just one year old and you need to get him into Eton. A wealthy family near London is seeking a tutor to “provide a comprehensive British cultural education” for their infant, according to an advertisement posted by Tutors International, which describes itself as the “hand-crafted Bentley” of private tuition. The advertisement explains: “His parents are aiming to raise a truly bicultural child. Starting with the elder brother of this child at the age of five, they felt it was too late to achieve their objective, so are now seeking a tutor from the outset.”
To earn the £180,000, “exceptional” tutors are expected to meet a long list of bizarre and class-based criteria: possess received English pronunciation; “appropriate” music theory; an understanding of cricket, tennis, rugby, polo and rowing; the ability to promote hand-eye coordination and good manners; familiarity with early years education, including Montessori and Reggio Emilia pedagogies; and first aid training. By comparison, an experienced nursery manager in England might earn around £35,000 a year without understanding polo. But in this case the ideal candidate would have attended “the best schools and universities in England” and “come from a socially appropriate background… educated and well-spoken, with excellent manners and personal values.” They must also be a non-smoker.
Free car parking and four weeks’ annual leave are included. The advertisement further states, “In time, the family expects their boy to be accepted into a top-flight school such as Eton, St Paul’s, Westminster or Harrow. It is important that the boy’s education, even in the early years, begins to prepare him for such a life of taste and sporting preference. There is no reason, for example, that a boy cannot visit Lord’s, Wimbledon and Twickenham.”
“Visits to museums, art galleries and theatres can all be incorporated into his education, which makes learning a by-product of a day of rich activity. Although only one year old, the tutor can use such venues – even simple places such as the local park, café or library – as launching points for teaching colours, numbers, letters and song international advertisements.” The family is genuine, and asks that interested applicants with “previous experience of working privately for residences, embassies or royal households” include this in their CV.
