The Times has obtained videos showing Tuesday’s incident in South Los Angeles, where a Deputy U.S. Marshal and a TikTok streamer were injured during an immigration enforcement operation and its aftermath. Authorities say Deputy Marshal Carlitos Ricardo Parias was injured by a ricocheted bullet fired by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, against whom Parias was charged with assaulting a federal officer on Tuesday night. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Here are the scenes shown in the videos:

One video shows a large amount of smoke billowing from a sedan parked between two law enforcement vehicles. Smoke continues to pour from the car for 25 seconds as the engine sound repeatedly surges up and down. Then an agent yells, “Shoot him with pepper balls!” As the noise from the car subsides, a volley of 11 gunshots rings out. It is not visible in the video who fired the shots.

The second video shows the scene after the shooting. Several law enforcement officers surround the sedan. They are eventually seen opening the door and removing someone. The individual screams in pain. An officer calls for people outside of the frame to “come back.” The suspect was lined up against a wall and handcuffed. He is surrounded by several officers as he continues to scream periodically. Eventually, a team of firefighters approaches the man and provides assistance.

Suspect Hospitalized Parias remained hospitalized Wednesday, after his arraignment on the charge of assaulting a federal officer was postponed to an unscheduled date. In a federal criminal complaint, authorities allege Parias, 44, rammed his car into agents’ vehicles as they boxed him in and tried to arrest him during the immigration enforcement operation. Acting U.S. Atty. for the Fed. Bill Essaly said in a post that both are expected to recover. In an affidavit, a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations said that ICE and the United States Marshals Service established surveillance Tuesday around a house located in the 400 block of 20th Street, where they believed Parias could be found. They established surveillance because Parias “was the subject of an administrative arrest warrant issued in conjunction with federal immigration proceedings.” According to the complaint, federal agents initially attempted to arrest Parias, but he evaded arrest.
