Police say a former student of a private school in Torrance, California, is in custody after allegedly stabbing three employees, attempting to stab a fourth, and then claiming to have planted bombs while being apprehended, police say. The former student of the Switzer Education Center allegedly wounded the three employees Monday prompting response from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad. Switzer Learning Center is a non-public special education school that supports students kindergarten through 12th grade, according to its website. According to a statement posted to the Torrance Police Department’s Instagram page, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at the school on Amapola Avenue around 8:30 a.m. local time. The report comes as South Carolina State University is on lockdown after a shooting was reported on campus, The suspect also claimed to have placed two pipe bombs near the intersection of 208th Street and Amapola Street near the Switzer Education Center. (Credit: KTTV) Police said the former student entered the campus and allegedly stabbed three employees before attempting to flee. Two of the victims were transported to Harbor General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the third was treated at the scene by the Torrance Fire Department. Authorities added that the suspect attempted to stab a fourth individual before fleeing the scene. Before footage from a TPUSA event, the Utah State University bomb squad detonated a ‘suspicious device’ which showed what appeared to be a knife and backpack in the grass near the Switzer Education Center. A statement from the Torrance Police Department said the suspect also claimed to have placed two pipe bombs near the intersection of 208th Street and Amapola Street. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was dispatched to fully investigate. As a precaution, Torrance Police issued a public alert asking people to avoid the area surrounding 208th Street and Amapola Avenue. FOX NEWS APP Authorities also confirmed in an official Instagram update that no explosive devices were found, though the bomb threat investigation remains ongoing. Police also have not released the suspect’s name or a possible motive, and said the investigation remains ongoing. Torrance Police Department for further comment.
