Uber drivers in the U.S. have a new way to earn extra money. The ride-hailing app announced Thursday a new pilot program that will give gig workers opportunities to train artificial intelligence (AI) through so-called “digital tasks.” These include simple, quick tasks for workers such as uploading photos, recording themselves speaking in their native language, and submitting written documents in different languages – all of which are then fed into AI models. How Uber’s digital tasks work Digital tasks are only available to drivers and delivery people who opt-in. Once they register, they may occasionally see invitations to complete tasks in the Opportunity Center. Once available, users can view the full list before getting started (each task is optional) – including an estimate of how long it will take and how much they will earn. Once tasks are completed, payment is issued within 24 hours. Uber Financials Shares of Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:UBER) rose nearly 3% in afternoon trading on Thursday. Uber’s reported second-quarter earnings for the period ending June 30 exceeded estimates, with $12.65 billion in revenue (versus estimates of $12.46 billion). Earnings per share (EPS) was 63 cents.
