Shrapnel from what appeared to be an “explosive ordnance” that detonated in the air struck a law enforcement vehicle in California Saturday during an event involving Vice President JD Vance. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the incident in a press release shared with Fox News Digital. The incident occurred near Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego County. The shrapnel was launched as CHP officers provided traffic break back up along I-5, on the same day Vance visited Camp Pendleton to commemorate the U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary. It is unclear exactly what time Saturday the incident occurred. The CHP said it occurred “during an unscheduled U.S. Marine Corps live-fire training demonstration adjacent to the highway and where the CHP had chosen to stop traffic during the live-fire exercise.” (California Highway Patrol) No injuries were reported. CHP officers alerted the Marine Corps, which “subsequently ceased additional live fire adjacent to the highway,” according to the agency. “As a Marine, I have enormous respect for our military partners, but my first duty is to ensure the safety of Californians and the officers who protect them,” VP VANCE ACCUSES CALIFORNIA GOV.
