হাসি এবং আলিঙ্গন: শেষ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি ঘোষণা শুটিং শিকার বাড়িতে যায়

Twelve-year-old Sofia Fourches was released from the hospital on Thursday, nearly two months after being shot in the head on August 27th at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis. She is the latest victim of the mass shooting to be released from the hospital. After being discharged from Gillette Children’s Hospital, she joined her father, Tom Fourches, as she exited a limo to meet staff at HCMC. Sofia wore a blue tracksuit with a blue St. Paul Saints. They were greeted by a cheering crowd, many hugs, and gifts. The Catholic Spirit, the news outlet for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, posted a video of Sofia exiting the limousine, walking, smiling, waving, and hugging people. Dr. Walt Galicich, chief of neurosurgery at Hennepin Healthcare, who led Fourches’ care at HCMC, was among the crowd and embraced her and her father. At the time of the shooting, a bullet had entered Sofia’s brain, causing severe vascular injury, and she was placed in a medically induced coma and had a portion of her skull removed to mitigate brain swelling. During a September 5 news conference, Galicich, chief of neurosurgery at Hennepin Healthcare, said that he was unsure how “this is going to end up,” but that she was showing signs of potential recovery, even in her serious condition. “We have seen in many cases, especially in young brains, where swelling is quite delayed and can get worse over time,” he said. “We’re starting to emerge from that worrying window, but we’re not out of it yet.” On September 11, a Hennepin Healthcare spokesperson said that Sofia was in “serious” condition, which represented an improvement. Then, on September 22, she moved to an inpatient rehabilitation program at Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. Fletcher Markle and Harper Moeski died in the mass shooting, and more than 30 others were injured, including Sofia. Eighth-grader Lydia Kaiser, who was also shot in the head, was released on September 6. Vorches will turn 13 on October 25. A GoFundMe for Sofia and her family has raised more than $1.1 million as of Thursday.
