Two U.S. Navy aircraft from the USS Nimitz – a Sea Hawk helicopter and an F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet – crashed in the South China Sea on Sunday during separate “routine operations,” and all five crew members were rescued and are in stable condition while the Navy investigates both incidents. An MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter assigned to the Marine Helicopter Strike Squadron 73 “Battle Cats,” crashed in the South China Sea while conducting routine operations from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Search and rescue teams from Carrier Strike Group 11, working alongside the Nimitz, quickly launched rescue efforts and safely extracted all three members of the helicopter crew. Officials said the individuals were returned to the aircraft carrier for medical evaluation and were later confirmed to be in stable condition. The aircraft also crashed in the South China Sea on January 22nd during flight operations. The two pilots were returned to the Nimitz and are also reported to be in stable condition.
