Reigning World Champion Luke Littler has secured his place in next month’s Players Championship Finals after winning Players Championship 32. The 18-year-old was in superb form, hitting 10 180s and producing an average of 110.73 as he defeated Dutchman Danny Olde Kalter 8-2 in the final in Wigan.

“I’m really happy to come away with a win,” said Littler, who averaged 102 in his seven matches on Wednesday. “The start of the day was just about getting through the early rounds and you need to believe in yourself.”

Littler, who was a World Youth Champion, earned a spot at the World Championship through the Q-School Order of Merit and was ranked 164th in the world ahead of his Alexandra Palace debut.

The Players Championship Finals, featuring the top 64 players on the Order of Merit, will be held from November 21-23 in Minehead, Somerset this year.

Littler began Wednesday 67th on the Players Championship standings but has now done enough to reach the Finals. “I knew I had the capabilities to come from behind,” he said on the PDC website.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to qualify for Minehead, and I’m very happy with how I’m playing. It’s another first for me to qualify for the Finals.”

He was outside the top 64, and had he withdrawn from Wednesday’s competition, and not played the final two events in Wigan on October 29 and 30, he would have failed to qualify.
