Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks due to a right hand sprain, the team announced. The injury occurred during Monday’s home game against the Nashville Predators. Tkachuk was checked into the boards by Predators defenseman Roman Josi in the first period, a play for which Josi received a minor penalty. Tkachuk returned to the game for a power play, but was noticeably absent during Ottawa’s late push to tie the game. Further evaluation revealed Tkachuk requires surgery to repair his thumb. He now faces an extended absence, leaving the Senators without one of their key players. Tkachuk, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, has become one of the league’s premier power forwards. From 2021-24, Tkachuk surpassed the 30-goal mark in three consecutive seasons. Last year, Tkachuk posted impressive numbers, and his five-on-five shooting was strong enough to get Ottawa back into the playoffs for the first time since 2017. With Tkachuk out for approximately two months, the remaining players will need to step up to maintain playoff contention. Star center Tim Stützle will undoubtedly be central to this effort, but how much improvement can players like Dylan Cozens and Shane Pinto make? Their depth in the Atlantic Division will be competitive. Getty Images.
