While this is good news for the Raiders, it doesn’t negate the fact that nothing went right on Sunday. Vegas’ offense racked up 95 total yards of offense in the first three drives and then went 0-for-7 on third downs while losing the time of possession battle 17:52 to 42:08. The Patriots ran just 30 plays in a 31-point loss. According to CBS Sports Research, those 30 plays are the fewest plays run by a team in a game since the Cleveland Browns ran 28 plays in that franchise’s first NFL game in 1999. ESPN ESPN Raiders QB Geno Smith said after the game, “There needs to be a lot of soul-searching that needs to be done.” “It’s a tough loss, so you have to keep your gut and check up on your teammates. … Thirty-one to seventeen isn’t nothing to be ashamed of. It’s more so us coming out here and not getting a shot in this game. It’s heartbreaking for the Raiders fans.”
