One UI 8.5 is showing a new feature. It’s called Priority Notifications and it works as you’d expect. The beta program may start sometime in November. Samsung’s top phones are getting a major Samsung One UI 8.5 software update in the coming months, and the latest feature to come with the update will make it easier to manage the raft of notifications that pop up every day. As mentioned by SammyGuru, One UI 8.5 has been leaked. The build has a new feature called Notification Priority that does exactly what you’d expect from its name: it applies a higher status to some of your incoming alerts. “Notifications that may be important will appear above other notifications so you don’t miss them,” the feature’s blurb reads. “You can choose whether to set notification priority on a per-app basis in the app’s notification settings.” You might like this. There’s no further indication of how it might work in practice, but it sounds useful – notification management improvements are always welcome. The feature description also mentions that the necessary content processing is done locally, so nothing is sent back to the cloud. We expect One UI 8.5 to be released at one time after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S26 phones, but beta testing may begin as early as next month. Of course, there’s no guarantee the Notification Priority feature will make it into the final version of the software – it will change and evolve before it’s fully launched. There are rumors of delays in Samsung’s new flagship series phones in 2026, but it’s unclear if that will affect One UI 8.5, which could be fully released in January or February – ahead of One UI 9.0 in mid-2026. We’ve already seen a leaked hands-on video of Samsung One UI 8.5, which also reveals that the software update could bring a double-tap gesture that will work on the back of the phone, much like iOS.
