FIRST ON FOX: Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Laredo, Texas, arrested a father and son accused of smuggling hundreds of firearms, including rifles, magazines, and ammunition, into Mexico after discovering two hidden compartments in U.S. trailers. On October 23rd, CBP officers working at the Laredo Bridge 2 Port of Entry stopped two southbound vehicles towing box trailers for inspection. Agents stated they noticed irregularities in the trailer walls. A secondary inspection revealed false compartments filled with an arsenal: approximately 400 firearms of various calibers, high-capacity magazines, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. DHS highlighted the operation as “one of the most violent days,” with numerous arrests made mid-operation, as over 400 firearms were found in two hidden compartments in the trailers, officials said. (HSI Laredo) HSI officials say the weapons were destined for Mexico, where cartels are fueling ongoing violence. The drivers are Emilio Ramirez Cortez, a legal permanent resident, and his son, Edgar Ramirez Diaz, a U.S. citizen. Both were arrested on federal firearms smuggling charges and turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service for their initial court appearances.
