লন্ডনে অস্ট্রেলিয়ান তরুণীকে ছুরিকাঘাতকারী ব্যক্তি খুনের চেষ্টার অভিযোগ থেকে রক্ষা পেয়েছেন
A homeless Romanian man who repeatedly stabbed an 11-year-old Australian tourist in a random attack in Leicester Square will not face trial for attempted murder. The Old Bailey heard that Ion Pinteru, 33, put the Australian tourist in a headlock and stabbed her eight times. She and her mother were due to see Taylor Swift at Wembley in August last year. Pinteru, who has been detained at Ashworth High Security Hospital near Liverpool, has admitted wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article, but denied attempted murder. He was due to appear in court this week but Judge Richard Marks, the Recorder of London, was told that the attempted murder charge will not be pursued. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the charge was dropped after psychiatric experts agreed that Pinteru was suffering from a mental illness, likely paranoid schizophrenia, at the time of the offence. Psychiatrists said this would have impaired his ability to make rational decisions or understand his own conduct. A CPS spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the victim and family of Ion Pinteru’s horrific actions, who will be held criminally responsible and punished accordingly.”
