‘খুব খারাপ লাগছে’- অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় কান্নায় পিটিয়ে অগ্যেম্যাংয়ের ইংল্যান্ড

Michelle Agyemang, Euro 2025 hopeful, suffered an injury during England’s 3-0 win against Australia at Pride Park. The Lionesses were heading for a comfortable victory, controlling the game after an early red card for the visitors. However, the game took a sour note when Agyemang was forced off just minutes before halftime. The Brighton loanee was seen in tears after going down while challenging for the ball. The striker received attention on her knee from physios before being stretchered off after more than five minutes. Sarina Wiegman confirmed post-match that the situation “didn’t look good.”
In team news, Anna Hampton returned from injury for England, while Taylor Hinds and Lucy Kendall were also included. Sam Kerr made a back-to-back start for the Matildas, her first since recovering from an ACL injury.
Wiegman had called for a good performance and a fast start, and that’s what the Lionesses delivered, capitalizing on a costly Australian error that would change the course of the game. Having already probed inside the opening 20 minutes, England’s pressure told when Alanna Kennedy hauled down Alessia Russo just on the edge of the penalty area.
As if the red card wasn’t enough, Aggie Beever-Jones smashed home her seventh international goal when a free-kick fell back to her, putting the hosts in control. England maintained their dominance throughout the remainder of the first half and eventually doubled their lead as Lucy Bronze delivered her 34th birthday gift with a fantastic finish.
With the Australian defense struggling in midfield, the game was seemingly set to coast to a conclusion until Agyemang’s injury disrupted proceedings.
The injury stopped the game for several minutes. Beever-Jones also went off with a knock, forcing England to play with 10 players for the final 10 minutes due to no more available substitutions. This didn’t prevent them from adding a third, as Georgia Stanway scored from the penalty spot to extend the Lionesses’ lead and seal their first win.
Wiegman said she was “concerned” when asked about Agyemang’s injury, adding: “It was still inside but of course I have seen that it doesn’t look good but hopefully it’s not too bad.”
Speaking in a press conference, Wiegman expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance: “We started really well and dominated the game. Then they went down to 10, which changes things a bit. We just wanted to keep peace in the game. We created lots of very good moments in the final third. I saw lots of good things, final crosses. That’s what we want to do next year. You want to see this team develop. You really want to play 11 v 11 because those are the challenges you get the most and that’s what you practice. As soon as space comes in one minute they drop deeper.”
Beever-Jones: ‘I play wherever I am needed’
Speaking to ITV, Aggie Beever-Jones said: “I am really enjoying my football, I don’t look too much into the stats. I come here, focus, try and show Sarina what I can do. I am happy to get on the scoresheet again. It was a great job today and I hope we can take good things from it and be ready for the next camp.”
