The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has criticized The Washington Post for its reporting on immigration footage, describing the publication as misleading. The Post reported Wednesday that a DHS report from August, in which a department official said federal officers “work day and night to arrest, detain, and deport violent criminal aliens from our nation’s capital,” featured several videos taken months prior and outside of the District of Columbia. “What a dishonest, biased, and fundamentally false article from @WashingtonPost,” DHS wrote in a post on social media platform X Wednesday, attaching a screenshot of the Post’s report. “Violent attacks and assaults by Antifa terrorists on our officers have been happening for months, and the Washington Post has completely ignored them,” it added. According to The Post, clips of the operation used in the DHS video have been used in at least six pro-President Trump videos about immigration programs released by administration officials in the past three months. Dan Lamothe, a reporter for The Post, responded to the DHS on X in a post on Wednesday, saying that the DHS report “only included the Washington Post’s headline.” “Here’s the real story, with details from the report, receipts included,” Lamothe added, providing a link to the report. Since Trump returned to power in January, the administration has taken a hardline stance against immigration, increasing the number of raids across the country. Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons said New York would see a higher rate of immigration arrests as protesters confront officers during raids. “You’re going to see an increase in ICE arrests because so many criminals and illegals have been released, particularly in New York,” Lyons said on Fox News. Other cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have also been targets of administration crackdowns. The Hill has reached out to The Post for comment.
