When I talk about AI, people keep asking the same question: Is AI going to take our jobs? The short answer might be yes, but if you listen to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s thoughts on the matter, you’ll understand that the threat doesn’t solely come from AI. He had just finished speaking at Nvidia GTC when influencer and What’s Trending host Shira Lazar approached him with the trillion-dollar question: “What would you say to people who are afraid of losing their jobs?” The videos demonstrate AI’s seemingly limitless potential across various industries.

Nvidia is not only one of the world’s most valuable companies; it partners with most major tech and artificial intelligence companies, including OpenAI, to further develop and support the models we now use for everything from recipe ideas to travel plans to summarizing and documenting ideas. These are increasingly being used by companies to perform tasks typically reserved for entry-level employees.
Nvidia relies heavily on building platforms to support all the computing needed to create these increasingly intelligent models. These smart models, and especially AGI, will define the coming age of artificial intelligence innovation and reshape the global workforce.

This brings us back to the problem at hand. We must give respect to Jensen, who first helped to revolutionize desktop graphics. In the mid-1990s, he didn’t back down from the issue. Instead, he turned it on its head. “You’re not going to lose your job because of AI. You’re going to lose your job because of someone who uses AI,” he told Lazar.

On one hand, it might sound incredibly harsh: It’s not AI, but it is AI, and you’re screwed either way. However, I think there is another meaning here.

When I talk to people about the coming AI revolution (we’re probably already in it) and the “Time of AI” (the current rate of innovation is 3x faster than previous technological eras), I encourage them not to bury their heads in the sand, but to at least embrace it easily. Learn about the latest platforms (Gemini, Sora, ChatGPT, Claude AI, etc.) and their capabilities. Understand it. This seemed to be Jensen’s point.
He continued: “My best advice is to engage with AI as fast as possible.”
I know this is easier said than done. While fear can be a motivator, it is often a catalyst for abandonment. Just refusing to try it. Well-established concerns about what AI can do to the environment (all those servers, so much heat, “boiling oceans”) mean that some refuse to participate in it. I get that, too, but if you accept that AI is here to stay, then maybe we can all help ensure that companies like Nvidia develop AI in an environmentally responsible way (Image credit: Shutterstock).
Nvidia acknowledges that AI training consumes energy, but claims that “using AI saves energy.” In the same report, he argues that AI is helping us adapt to climate change by training AI to recognize and predict weather patterns. The good news is that, according to the 2025 Sustainability Report, “100% of NVIDIA’s global electricity consumption is offset or sourced by renewable energy sources.”
Without our participation in the AI field, we cannot influence the development of AI or adjust it for a better future. But on a more practical level, I think Jensen is right. Regardless of how you feel about AI, or how you feel about it right now, there’s a good chance someone else deeply involved with AI will take your job because you refuse to do it.
Of course, there is another reason for Jensen to use AI. As he told Lazar, “It’s more fun than people think.”
