“We are devastated by Ben’s passing, and the grief of his death will be felt by everyone in our cricket community,” the club said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family… his friends and all who knew Ben and the joy he brought.”

“Medical assistance was being provided by people that were on the ground at the time, until paramedics arrived,” he said.
A statement from Ben Jess Austin’s father was released by Cricket Australia.
“This tragedy has taken our Ben away from us, but we get some comfort knowing he was doing something that he loved for so many summers – hitting a cricket ball with his mates in the nets,” he said. “He loved cricket and it was one of his life’s joys.”
“We need him to be his roommate, who holds the bowl in the nets – in this case, two young men and our thoughts, and the family, we’re really thinking about it together.”
