You can now listen to Fox News articles! The Miami Dolphins shook things up on Friday when they announced they were parting ways with General Manager Chris Grier. After much frustration, Thursday night’s blowout home loss to the Baltimore Ravens appeared to be the final straw for both sides, and they mutually agreed to end their relationship. Stephen A. Smith, however, believed it was a technicality on the sidelines, hence they won’t say Grier lost his job. He later appeared to question why Grier, who is Black, was “fired” ahead of head coach Mike McDaniel. For more sports coverage from FOXNEWS.COM, click here. Stephen A. “What are you learning? It was about Tua (Tagovailoa). It was about Mike McDaniel. And the first brother gets fired?” Smith said on “Get Up” as the news broke. “I’m not saying they don’t deserve it the way things look. You’re in leadership, I get it. I understand. I am for the brothers who are head coaches and GMs. We know what I’ve been fighting for for 30 years. I get that.

“But when you ain’t getting the job done. I’m standing up. Don’t tell him that’s okay. Don’t tell them we’re keeping Mike McDaniel in place, and we’re just going to fire him, and we’re moving on. Damn I’m waiting for more news.

“I can’t defend Chris Grier. … But I’ll be damned if I’m going to stop there. Oh, hell no.”

Grier, 55, had been with the organization since 2000 and had served as the team’s general manager since being promoted to the position in 2016.

“As I stated at the start of the season, I will be all in on making the changes necessary to reverse the Dolphins’ fortunes,” Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. “Since I have been assessing the team’s football operations, and after recent discussions with Chris, it has become apparent that we need to move forward with a new vision. With that in mind, I have made the decision to part ways with Chris Grier.”

“Since I have evaluated the state of the team and had several conversations with Chris, it is clear to both of us that waiting to make these changes until after the season would not be in the best interests of the team. The Dolphins need to get better. The time has come to hire a new executive vice president/general manager to lead our football operations.”
