District officials cited tough budget projections during negotiations. The preliminary agreement must still be ratified by union members. The union said it plans to hold a joint press conference with the district on Monday. The agreement was announced just a week after the union gave notice that it intended to strike on November 11, following months of contract negotiations that failed to reach a deal. The Minneapolis teachers union previously went on strike for nearly three weeks in 2022 – its first strike since 1970.
