প্রাকৃতিক ধূমকেতুর বিপরীতে একটি রহস্যময় আভা নিয়ে সূর্যের ছায়া থেকে আন্তঃনাক্ষত্রিক অতিথি পুনরায় আবির্ভূত হয়

A mysterious interstellar visitor, 3I/ATLAS, has emerged from behind the sun and is now behaving in a way that has stunned scientists. On Wednesday, the object reached its closest point to the sun and was observed by three NASA spacecraft. Data shows that 3I/ATLAS brightened nearly seven times faster than a typical comet as it reached perihelion on October 29th. In other words, its brightness increased at an unusually rapid rate as it approached the sun.

Researchers involved in the observations published the study on Wednesday, stating: “The cause for 3I/ATLAS’s rapid brightening, which exceeds the brightening rate of most Oort cloud comets at similar distances from the sun, remains unclear.”

Adding to the mystery, the interstellar visitor now appears blue, in contrast to its previously reddish hue, suggesting that something more than simple reflection is at play. However, the team suggested the blue hue is likely due to emissions of gases, including carbon (C2) molecules and other compounds, rather than just sunlight reflecting off dust.

This is a developing story… more updates to come.

They also used GOES-19, a weather satellite with the CCOR-1 coronagraph, which helped image the comet’s brightness and color while it was hidden behind the sun from ground-based telescopes. CCOR-1 detected a luminous plume stretching around 186,000 miles around the object, comparable to the carbon dioxide halo observed months earlier. The GOES-19 satellite shows that 3I/ATLAS is enveloped in a vast, fuzzy cloud, the coma, about half the width of a full moon.
