Go big, or go gourd! Twin brothers have grown the heaviest pumpkin of all time, weighing in at 2,819 pounds and 4 ounces. Ian and Stuart Paton, 64, of Hampshire, England, who have been growing pumpkins for over 50 years, came close to achieving the feat in the fall, but only broke the Guinness World Record this month. Their gourd, which they named “Muggle” in homage to the “Harry Potter” franchise, not only broke the record for heaviest pumpkin but also for largest pumpkin, with a circumference of 21 feet, 3.8 inches. The pair brought the pumpkin to a competition near Reading, a two-hour drive from their home in Lymington, and told the outlet: “Giant pumpkins are quite easy to move because we’ve been doing it for so many years. We have our big lifting rings and we literally scoop the pumpkins up.” The Paton brothers have grown the world’s heaviest pumpkin. Guinness World Records adjudicator Sebastian Suski was there to take the measurements, as was a giant fruit and vegetable consultant from Guinness Book of Records. “I was astonished when this record came to the UK,” Suski told the record book. “For the brothers who have been growing for over 50 years, but also for all the British pumpkin growers it was huge news.
